Past Simple
A finished action at a definite past moment.
S + V2 | did + not + V1
A completed action at a specific point in the past. Regular verbs take -ed, irregular verbs have a separate V2 form. Questions and negatives use did.
Examples
- We shipped the order on Friday.
- The carrier delivered the cargo yesterday.
- Did you sign the BOL?
Did you went to the warehouse?
Did you go to the warehouse?
did is followed by the base form V1, not V2: did you go.
Common mistakes
- V2 after did: Did you went? → Did you go?
- Irregular verbs forced into the -ed pattern: goed → went.
